The Feather Cape Quilt

'Ahu ‘Ula - Sacred Hawaiian Feather Cape

This design is derived from the treasured capes worn by high chiefs and kings. Usually red or yellow, these were painstakingly wrought from the feathers of the o’o and i’iwi birds. Our interpretation zooms in close. The bold color fields are the feathers, the quilting follows the line of their barbs. As bold and commanding a design as the originals that inspired it.
